A different type of Lab
Welcome to the Pracademic Lab. By combining ‘Practitioner’ and ‘Academic’, the term Pracademia seeks to capture where these two words, and worlds, meet.
The Lab is a creative attempt to translate between very different realities; a testing ground where rigour and relevance intersect. This point of intersection, symbolised by the red circle in our logo, represents an active process that aims to make organisational life better for all.
Backdrop
Finding the intersection between Academia and Practice is not easy.
Many academics talk their own language, primarily to one another. As a consequence, much of the wonderful insight generated on the ‘mountain-top’ of academic achievement simply gets lost. It evaporates in a closed loop of scholarship.
Practitioners have their own issues. Driven by the action, traction and distraction of everyday life, their capacity for meaningful reflection, thoughtful decision making and disciplined delivery often disappears. Great ideas from the mountain-top, abstract and remote, don’t get a look in.
Add the ‘challenges’ of AI, sustainability and culture and suddenly the capacity for rupture in this relationship becomes an immediate reality, just at the moment when both sides need one another the most.
The Pracademic Lab exists to respond to these challenges. It’s mission, non-traditional structure and range of activities are positioned at the sweet spot between critical insight and real-world impact.
